We recommend using two-factor authentication (2FA) on your account. Two-factor authentication means you need something in addition to your password to log into your account. This way, even if your password were lost or guessed by someone trying to access your account, the unauthorized user could not log in.
Mewa.io supports two forms of two-factor authentication:
- Software token. A software application on your phone such as Authy or Google Authenticator generates a rotating password which is unique to your account and changes every minute. When logging in, you will be prompted for this code in addition to your password. This is the recommend option.
- Text Message or SMS. Every time you log in, a code will be sent to your phone which you will need to enter along with your password.
Enabling Software token
To use the software token, you should first install your desired application on your phone. From Account Settings, click Enable 2FA. Select the Software token.
Scan the barcode displayed on your screen with your phone.
Your software token app will generate a code. You must enter this code and click Save in order to complete enabling 2FA.
Enabling SMS 2FA
To use SMS, you must first verify your cell phone number. From Account Settings, scroll to the Cell Phone section, enter your cell phone number and click Update Cell Phone.
An initial message with a code will be sent to your cell phone. Enter this code and click Submit to verify your phone.
Once your cell phone number has been verified, scroll to the Two-factor authentication section. Click Enable and select Text Message or SMS. Click Submit and another pin will be sent to your cell phone. Enter this pin to finish enabling 2fA on your account.
